Welcome to the World of Perfect Partners, Incorporated!
Step into the world of sentient androids. Humans no longer have to woo a human mate or wait for that perfect match... they simply order their heart’s desire and live life to the fullest. Called PePrs - say it like pepper, the spice - they have become indispensable to humanity. They do the jobs we don’t want to do, act as our windows to the wider world, fill all our social needs, and have become the expressions of our collective will. From the battlefield to the dog pound, from our perfect mate to the nanny that cares for our children... almost every task can now be done by a PePr, leaving humans to explore a life free of drudgery.
It sounds perfect. Then again, things that start perfect don’t usually stay that way.
Each of the novellas in this volume is a stand alone work. There are no cliff-hangers, but there might be tears, gasps, and smiles. Who will you root for? Human or PePr... choose your side!
This volume contains Corrections, Imperfect, The Dogcatcher, PePr, Inc., and Posthumous.
Ella is an excellent private investigator and she’s got one heck of a case on her hands. PePrs are disappearing.
As Ella and her new trainee – a sex-bot reject with no sense whatsoever — scour the city and follow a tantalizing trail of clues, everything she thought she knew about the world is called into question.
"Achingly good! I found Robot Evolution after sizzling through another of Ann Christy’s short story collections, The Ways We End (also excellent). This is a particularly amazing set of six discrete stories. I would happily have read an entire book devoted to any one of the stories. I was sad at the end of each one - though the consolation of having a new story helped. The questions, 'what does it mean to be human,' and 'what do we owe each other' run through each of these stories in ways both profound and mundane. Thanks to the writing and a beautifully imagined world, I can fully imagine the PePrs and their human counterparts wrestling with these thorny issues at each stage of the robot evolution. It created a fascinating theme unifying otherwise disparate stories. Do yourself a favor and read this book - you won’t be sorry."
"An excellent anthology exploring the social impact of sentient robots in everyday life... All the stories are good, with the last, 'Posthumous,' being the best. 'PePrs' is a close second, and has a great twist. I noticed that the 'PePrs' here is slightly different from the one in Future Chronicles. Not to give anything away, but in Robot Evolution's version, the protagonist is less sociopathic. In a way, I prefer the Future Chronicles version's somewhat darker ending, though I admit this one fits better with Christy's wider worldbuilding. I highly recommend this, and I look forward to reading more of Christy's work."
"This author is amazing! I discovered her when I was looking for more books by Hugh Howey last month. I didn't even know other authors were writing more books in his 'Silo' world. I bought one of hers to try it out. Loved it and bought, read, and loved every one in this series. Bought, read, and loved all of her other series: Between Life and Death, PePrs, Strikers..."
"[Hope/Less] is so sad but yet it's wonderful at the same time... One of the best in the author's PePr series."
"Great book for a great price for a lovely afternoon read. I don't want to do a spoiler on the book. Suffice it to say that I LOVED it. I love this whole series."
